Schoolyard Science @ Tucson Village Farm

Hands-on activities designed to help educators with ideas for doing science! This activity demonstrated how to contribute to a long-term phenology research project in your classroom. Resources shared include a Jr. Phenologist Certification Program, a species research worksheet and an example of simplified data collection sheets to be used as an introduction to phenology monitoring.

Sam Hughes Elementary School Introduction to Nature's Notebook

This introduction to phenology monitoring in the classroom was presented to elementary school teachers at the Sam Hughes Elementary School in Tucson (grades K-5).  You will find some helpful getting started and curricula resources below. What the heck is PHENOLOGY?

This 1.5 hour lecture was presented as a course for the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute in  Green Valley, Arizona.  It is a basic introduction to the concepts of observation, climate, ecology, phenology, and the USA National Phenology Network.

Home water harvesting course phenology lecture

This 2 hour lecture was given to a home water harvesting class at the University of Arizona.  It covers general phenological concepts as well as applications in water harvesting and rain garden environments.  It also included a general field portion where students were introduced to local species on the Tucson Phenology Trail and a discussion about major phenophases such as leafing, flowering, and fruiting.
