Spring Index based on first bloom dates

The lilac spring index developed by Mark Schwartz is a potential Indicator of Phenological Change. The widely tested Spring Indices (models which process air temperature data into a metric comparable to plant development) are an example of a consistent measure that can be calculated for any location/time with daily maximum-minimum air temperature data.
