Phenology for Master Naturalists
Phenology is the cornerstone of any ecosystem. Having an understanding of local species' phenology and why it is important to big and small picture research helps Master Naturalists understand seasonal and climatic changes through time.
Master Naturalists are also fabulous candidates to participate in citizen science projects like Nature's Notebook. Nature's Notebook provides the context to participate in a rigorous research project with local, national, and international outcomes. Master Naturalists have the skill set to design their own monitoring programs for their chapters and regions or the ability to collect accurate observations for the long-term, such that the National Phenology Database is accurate and species are well-represented.
