Middle School Intro to Phenology Presentation and Great Class Questions!

This 45-minute presentation is useful for introducing the topic of phenology to a middle school classroom, in conjunction with starting a long-term monitoring project for the school. The teacher assigned the students, as homework, an activity (similar to this KWL exercise) to review the website before coming to class.  When in class, the teacher compiled the list of questions the students generated after reviewing the content.  The questions were submitted to the presenter ahead of time and she was able to address them with the content of her presentation.

In this example, the students are monitoring at their school, as well as at the adjacent Tucson Audubon Mason Center. They are making observations weekly for the entire school year.  At the end of the year, they will have a dataset to compare.  The teacher plans on continuing this for years to come, and she will then have a long-term phenology project implemented at her school.
